Arusha National Park
Mount Meru, forest and lakes close to town
What it's like
Arusha National Park packs a lot of scenery into a small area: montane forest, open glades, alkaline lakes and the rugged slopes of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain.
Because it is close to the city, it suits a first day of wildlife viewing or a gentler outing at the start or end of a longer journey. Guided walks with an armed park ranger may be possible, subject to park rules on the day.
Things to do
- Game drives through forest and open glades
- Guided walks with a park ranger, where permitted
- Viewpoints over the Momella Lakes and Ngurdoto Crater
- Multi-day Mount Meru climbs (separate planning required)
Planning notes
Travel considerations
- Park entry fees, walking-safari rules and opening hours are set by the park authority and will be confirmed in your proposal.
- Mount Meru can be hidden by cloud; clear views are never guaranteed.
Seasons
Northern Tanzania generally sees a longer rainy period around March to May and shorter rains around November to December, but patterns vary from year to year.
Draft guidance — access rules, fees and seasonal details are confirmed in your proposal.
